Sometimes, we just want to find answers. After 23 years working as a psychotherapist with adult children as well as their aging parents, I can tell you with certainty: not every problem requires a diagnosis or some form of “treatment.” After all, struggling to care for your loved ones is not a neurosis, and getting old is not a disease. That’s why I recommend coaching instead of therapy when you are caring for aging parents. |
Although many of the issues are the same as those that I deal with in my psychology/gerontology private practice, I was drawn to use the coaching model in many cases. It allows me to offer some distinct advantages over psychotherapy, including:
When you
come for coaching I do not have to label
you with a diagnosis; |
I assume that
you are mentally healthy and that you are
going to be fine whether you see me or not; |
I approach you
and your issues from a wellness model rather
than a medical model; |
I assume that you have the answers to your issues within you and will help you access these by getting in touch with your higher power. |
Clients turn to me because I’m not an ordinary life coach. It’s unusual for a coach to also be a licensed psychologist or a certificated gerontologist. I happen to be both, in addition to having been a high school teacher (French and English) for four years, high school counselor for eight years, and a school psychologist for two years.
Yours in health and well being,

Dr. Lilla Peeples
