Help when dealing with aging parents

My Services for
Adult Children of Aging Parents

Think back to your last airline flight when you heard the instruction,

“Put your own oxygen mask on first, before trying to assist others.”

The reason that statement is repeated on every single flight is because they know that people will literally die trying to help those they love – unless they are reminded to take care of themselves.

Taking care of yourself first is not an act of selfishness. In fact, it’s the BEST way to insure that your loved one will receive your ongoing attention and the care they need – even if they are somewhat resistant.

"Coaching has been one of the best experiences of my life! Dr. Peeples has such a vast expanse of knowledge, experience and wisdom. I feel so much better knowing that she is there to help me. It is such a comfort to be able to talk with somebody.”

Why Coaching?

Coaching is a co-active process in which we work together to achieve your agenda. The focus of our work is on you – your needs, your values, and your challenges.

The process helps you decide on one issue at a time that you would like to deal with in each session and what you would like to take away from our time together. I help you clarify your thinking by listening and asking questions to determine what’s really at issue. Based on decades of experience, I will offer suggestions for how to accomplish your goal.

In addition to being a certified personal life coach, I am a licensed psychologist, a certificated gerontologist (someone who specializes in working with issues related to the elderly), a Reiki Master and a Healing Arts Practitioner.

While all personal life coaches are trained in coaching methods, few have the extensive training, background and experience that I offer in this area. I have been a psychologist in private practice for 23 years, working extensively with the elderly and their adult children. I have also provided therapy to various nursing home residents and counseled their adult children.

As your coach, my commitment to you is that I will:

  • Listen actively to your concerns and issues;
  • Support you in moving forward;
  • Motivate you to tap into your strengths;
  • Help you gain a different perspective;
  • Teach you how to take care of yourself and reclaim your power;
  • Identify resources you can mobilize;
  • Highlight options you want to consider;
  • Assist you in setting up an action plan;
  • Keep you accountable to your plans.

I have had decades of experience helping people just like you. You will be surprised at how much clarity you gain on issues that initially seem unwieldy or overwhelming.

We will often set an action plan toward the end of the hour for you to carry out during the time before the next session. We’ll agree on a suitable way for us to check in on its accomplishment. As we work together, we may move very quickly to attain some goals, while others may take time. Everybody is different and each individual wants a different outcome.

What Coaching is Not

Coaching is not therapy. Although I will draw upon my expertise as a psychologist, I will not be acting in this role when I work with you. I will not diagnose or treat you.

Coaching is based on a wellness model, not a medical or sickness model. I assume that there is nothing “wrong” with you. I work on a basic assumption that you are worthwhile, intelligent, capable, and that the answers lie somewhere within you. I do not profess to have all the answers, and instead will work with you to determine your own truth based on each situation, and help you access your higher self and reclaim your power.

You do not need to worry about investing money in a service that may not work for you. I offer everyone a free 30-minute sample session. This gives us both a chance to see if we work well together and allows you to determine if coaching is right for you. Coaching is paid on a monthly basis, and you can discontinue at the end of any month. You can read more details here about how it works.
